CEO Business Owners Know Something Most People Don't

Martha Graham, who danced all the way to her grave at age 96 years old, has this to say about the journey of all artists.

"There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening
that is translated through you into action,
and because there is only one of you in all time,
this expression is unique.

If you block it,
it will never exist through any other medium
and be lost.
The world will not have it.

It is not yours to determine how good it is;
nor how it compares with other expressions.
It is your business to keep the channel open.
You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work.

You have to keep open and aware directly
to the urges that motivate you.
Keep the channel open.

No artist is ever pleased.
There is no satisfaction whatever at any time.
There is only a queer divine dissatisfaction;
a blessed unrest that keeps us marching
and makes us more alive than the others."

The greatest gift you have as an entrepreneur is what Martha Graham calls "a blessed unrest".

You're the creator of your business and "No artist is pleased.  There is no satisfaction whatever at any time.  There is only a queer divine dissatisfaction; a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others."

I love this!  Because for far too long I thought there was something wrong with me.

Why can't I just be happy?

Every time I reach the top of one mountain, I put myself at the bottom of another much bigger mountain.

Why do I keep doing this to myself?

And every time I do, I expose myself to new threats and risks.  It's uncomfortable when you always feel like you've not become who you know you could be.

There's this nagging feeling knowing that I've not yet built the business I know I can build.

THIS IS MY GREATEST GIFT!  AND YOU HAVE IT TOO!

"The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek," - Joseph Campbell

What if you were to reframe what scares you to be an indicator of desire.

Your fears, your discontent, even your anxiety point to a real need that you have.

As long it's there you know that you're right where you need to be.

You're on the path of creating more of what you want in your life and business.

Those that fail in business often think that it's a joyride to the top--that's why they never succeed.

Those that win in business know that there is "no top" to reach.  There is only "a blessed unrest" that keeps putting us at the bottom of another mountain.

It's this journey that we love and we live for.

Embrace who you are and go enter the cave you fear the most and create the life you desire.

What's one thing you could do this coming week that scares you?
