When you don't have a clear vision, everything just feels like work and it, that's exhausting. But when you have a vision that does light you up based on what inspires you, that's an amazing experience.

Welcome back or welcome to the Create Purpose Podcast. In today's episode, I'm actually sitting outdoors on a picnic table in Sundance, Utah at the Sundance Mountain Resort. If you haven't ever been here, it is beautiful, and I'm just sitting out here. I took an extra day after a two day retreat where twice a year I get away with a mastermind that I'm with and we.

get clear on our vision and get clear on what our next steps are to fulfill on that vision. So that's what I've been doing the last two days, been been around 30, 35. Other leaders, business owners, people that are just really inspiring to be around. I don't know if you've ever experienced that when, when you get around specific types of people who are also living into their dream playing bigger than most people.

You know, and I'm not trying to compare like, but, but you know what I mean, like, They're leaning into life and they're building something they're creating. And when you get around people like that, it's just energizing. So, needless to say, I'm, I'm quite energized today. This is the day three. I actually, I decided to stay an extra day just to get some time to, to integrate on the last two days and just get some downtime.

And this episode's gonna be short, and I'm gonna do something fun here at the end. So stay tuned. But, I just wanted to come on here and ask you, you know, how often do you step away from the whirlwind? That's a question I literally asked myself this morning when I was on a hike. It's like, Wow, I haven't done something like this for, I can't remember the last time I've done something like this.

And one of the, the principles I teach all of my clients early on when we start working together is we call it, we're calling it CEO time. One of my clients called it CEO time. I'm like, Yes, let's call it. So CEO time, and it's, it's time to step away from, from the day to day whirlwind and just get clear again on who you are and why you do what you do, and what's important to you about it.

What's the meaning behind it? What brings your heart alive, What lights you up? That inner creative spark that's, that's there tapping back into it. And the only way you do that is you have to create space for yourself. There's a, a beautiful poem. One of the lines that I, I love. A fire burns because of, Because of the space between the logs, and that is what I'm asking of you.

When's the last time you've just created some space for you to just do whatever you want to do? Whether that's writing, reading, going on a walk, going to the gym, getting out into nature. Which is something I've no, don't usually do, but have had the opportunity the last several days. Wow. I would highly encourage that one.

It's, uh, such a missed opportunity, especially if you live in a city, just all the noise and move, moving and busyness. Everything just seems to slow down when you're out in nature. And what I've noticed personally is I've, I'm thinking really clearly what often has felt very complex in my mind is starting to just settle.

I'm getting a lot clearer on what's next for me and, and where I, what I wanna move into. And I think, I think you have the same opportunity. And so that's what I wanted to do is just come on here. And I wanna pose a question though. When's the last time you've really thought about your vision? I'm gonna call it an impossible vision.

One of the speakers over the last two days, he said it so well, he. . Here's how you know you have a vision. A vision is something that's outside of your reach, so that's why I'm calling it impossible vision. It's outside of the realm of what you think is possible for you today. He said that if it's within your reach, then it's just, it's just a goal.

But a vision is something that's outside of your reach. It's gonna, it's, it's gonna demand more of you than, than what you have within. Right, Like a vision can't be achieved by yourself. A vision is gonna require building a team around you, getting the right support, building a team, not only in your business, but outside of your business.

You know, those that are co-creating with you and collaborating with you and being thinking partners, coaches, experts, people that maybe have done part of the business that you're trying to figure out, whether that's marketing. Operations or leadership and just having somebody that has eyeballs on you to help you draw you back towards your creative genius so that you can be the best that you can be when you go back into your business.

So we have to build our team. That's, that's when you know you have a vision is when you create a vision, it's gonna take more than you have. You're gonna have to tap into your ability to grow and learn and build a team. And that's my question to you is what's your. If you were to write something down that would truly excite you, what would that be?

What would be outside of your reach? And to do that, You know, we have to suspend the, I'm not good enough stories. The, I'm old, too old, too young, not experienced enough, don't have enough resources, don't have enough money or time or, you know, all the, all the things, the stories we tell ourselves for why we can't do so.

You have to suspend all that to get clear on a vision because as long as you're in your head trying to figure out what you can do or can't do, what's possible. That's why I don't like smart goals, which again, this isn't a goal. This is a vision. Smart goals, you know, the R stands for realistic. Well, realistic is just a story we tell ourselves.

I'm willing to, Here's the thing, you don't, you, me, we don't know what's realistic because when we're creating and building, we haven't ever done it before. So we don't know what our potential is or what's possible. So just suspend that and listen to more to your, listen more to your imagination and let yourself dream.

So suspend all that that BS and just listen to your heart. And sometimes it's helpful to look outside of you, look around you, like who are some people in your life that really inspire you, or what are some events you've been to that have really inspired you, or a work of art that's really inspired you, or a business that's really inspired.

Now look closer at it. What about those things inspire you? Because that's information for you to bring into your vision. What lights you up? What inspires you, is just an indication of what? What's also for you if you choose to create it now, do you have all the capabilities today to create it? Probably not.

You're gonna need to build a team. You're gonna need to learn new skills. , but that doesn't mean it's not for you. And what a, what a i that I like that kind of life. You know, a life where you're kind of putting yourself at the bottom of a new mountain one that's challenging. But you know, I went on a hike this morning and my legs were burning.

It was, it was hard work in this mountain air, you know, My lungs were burning as well. It was hard, but I loved every minute of it. And that's what I want for you is do hard things. But it doesn't mean you have to like, make all these sacrifices and, and just live a hard life for years so that you can have what you want to have down the road.

I think that's, that's bs like find a way to do hard things, but enjoy the, enjoy the burn will say, you know, enjoy it. Enjoy the experience. Like nobody climbs a mountain for the hell of it like they wanna experience. , they wanna experience what they have within them. They wanna experience what they're capable of, cuz they don't always know.

They wanna experience the beauty of life. And the only way you're gonna experience all of that is to lean in. And I'm suggesting to lean in. You need to create a vision. You need to get a vision. And maybe you've had one, but it's been a while since you've gone back to it. So often. The, the business owners I work with, they had a vision when they started out, their passion turned into a business.

Their vision was to be profitable and, and have a team and, you know, be able to pay themselves all those things. Well now they have all that and, and they're exhausted. They, they went back into just doing a bunch of work. The, uh, the other thing that I learned this weekend, I wrote down in my journal, I was reading through my notes this morning, was when you don't have a vision, when you don't have a clear vision, everything just feels like work.

And then that's exhaust. But when you have a vision that does light you up based on what inspires you, and then you find an approach that works for you, you know, find an approach that's uniquely yours to take that where you can stay in resonance, stay in alignment with who you are. Yeah, it's hard, like there's the burn, just like climbing a mountain, but it's an amazing experience full of ups and downs and victories and, and opportunities to learn and grow, and that's where all the magic is.

Lean in, create your vision, and a few, Here's a few marching orders for you if you want to refresh your vision. Number one, you need to get a, you need to get into nature. You need to get around a new environment, something that's refreshing to you, and it doesn't have to, you don't have to go to Sundance or something like that, but just step away from your house and your office some.

For the longest time for me, it was going to a coffee shop, but get away from what's normal. Create some space for yourself. So that's number one. Create some quality space for yourself. That's number one. Number two is let yourself just write, bring a journal, and just write about the things that excite you.

Think about the people in your life that inspire you. What about them inspires you? Think about the events you've gone to in the last 12 to 18 months. What about those events and experiences have inspired you think about businesses and business owners and products, What about them inspire you? What about their approaches inspire you?

What do you love about it? Also, what, what pisses you off? Sometimes that's fun. Like what? What's wrong with this world? Just journal on those things because as you do, You are going to identify who you are and what, what's uniquely yours to create. Hasn't been created yet, maybe, but it's yours to create.

It's gonna inform your vision. And then number three, just take a stab at it. Start it with, I am creating, Start the paragraph that you rise, I am creating, and just start to write out what are you creating and what does it look like? What does it feel like? What impact does it have? What meaning does it have not only for yourself, but your customers and those you serve?

Your family? What kinda life is it gonna create for you? Why does it matter to you? And just, I like to start with, I am creating. I am creating. You're writing it in the present tense. That's number three. Write it in the present tense. Start with I am creating and just write, What are you creating? And then step four step.

Put it down, put it, put, close the book and then enjoy the rest of your day. Don't rush into, Well, how am I gonna do that? What do I need to do? Oh, I'm gonna, may have to make a lot of sa, Just stop all that. Just stop that. Just know that you get to be that vision that you just wrote. You get to be the vision.

Be a hundred percent certainty that that vision is for you. You don't need to know how it will find a way if you just lean into it and keep creating. And so now go enjoy the rest of your. and the to finish. Step four, come back to what you wrote day or two later. Have a highlighter in your hand. Highlight the parts that you wrote that really jump out at you and go ahead and rewrite your vision one more time.

And I bet this, this next time you write it, it's gonna be even more clear, even more succinct. And just keep leaning in. Just keep creating. , take one next step, one step towards it. You don't need to know how you're gonna create it. You, you, you don't know how you've never done it before, but you can take your next step.

And that might be just calling somebody up that has done it or working with a coach or somebody who's gonna help you get clear on, on the actual steps you wanna craft for yourself to start fulfilling on that vision. That's the end of the episode. I told you that I wanted to do something. I have no idea how this is gonna turn out, but I'm gonna walk over here.

There is this beautiful like stream going through the the resort. So you've probably have heard some white noise. What's, it's been running water and I'm walking closer to it and I just wanna give a moment of silence and maybe you can enjoy this just like I am right now.

How is that? Yeah, I love it. So go create your. Create some space, start riding, start dreaming, start paying attention to what lights you up and step away from the, the whirlwind long enough. You have to create space for yourself to do this, and I just wanted to hopefully inspire you to, to do more of that for yourself because I know that when you do, a lot's gonna change really fast and life is gonna get really exciting.
